It was a great day! It was a great crowd! Over 60 people wandered through. Another twenty or so expressed their regrets for missing the event. Many previous customers, both old and new, showed up in force to support the new location.
The opening was attended by several long-standing members of the arts community including my favorite local author and columnist Susan Rushton, and Placer County Arts Council representative Rosie Stilwell, with whom I served eight years on the Auburn Art Walk Committee. Many brilliant conversations about art, film, and social commentary arose during the day.
Longtime customers, the owners of Carpe Vino sent this lovely and exotic floral bouquet. It was created by Auburn Blooms, once my neighbors at 611 High St., and now thriving in their new location in Old Town Auburn.
Over 100 of my own drawings, paintings and pastels were on display in the courtyard, many from my recent art studies at Sac State. Each of my crew members went home with a new piece of art, either from the print bin or my collection as a thank you gift for their indispensable assistance.
The word “Celebration” is used in honor of my dear friend Esther Michel. For those of you who are new to the area, she owned Graphic Designs Gallery in Old Town Auburn during the early 1990’s. If she were still with us, she would have been there, and she would have insisted on making it a day to remember.
